Minutes of the meeting on Tuesday 1st February 2005.

Apologies
None - members present: 12

Welcome to three new "faces"- Peter Elliot, Chris Skinn & Rodger Bloxham

PAEKAKARIKI
Following discussion with KCDC, we have provisionally been given the OK to have a gate installed in the new lookout fence, providing Rail Corp will give us access. This will provide an alternative launch for hang gliders and paragliders at Paekakariki. [Kris has written to RailCorp - a response is still awaited]
Motion - that the club donate up to $300 towards the cost of an access gate to be installed in the lookout fence, providing authorisation is given by Rail Corp to enter their land and use the area as a launch, and providing that the Kapiti Coast District Council authorises a gate.
Proposed Kris, seconded Terry. Passed - unanimous.
Signs are to be installed at the fence by the stile, and the gate to the airstrip, warning those launches are closed. (Think this has been done).

Notice in Local paper to be issued, advising launch closure -
"Wellington Hang Gliding and Paragliding Club
All WHGPA members are hereby notified that until further notice the only
permitted launching area for hang gliders and paragliders on Paekakariki
Hill is the airstrip.  Entry is from the main road directly below the
airstrip.  The access road is not to be used."
[This notice has appeared in the Kapiti Coast Times mid March, and was organised by Lloyd and Kris. (thanks guys)]

At this stage, Harry Memelink, the owner of the airstrip, is prepared to continue to allow us access on his property. Just not up the drive, which as you all should know by now, is owned by the Perkins family.

DALEFIELD
Thanks mentioned by Kris to those that helped clear the launches at Dalefield - the PG NE launch is now much more open, the big pine tree below has gone, (good effort, Barry) and the HG NE launch is rounded off at the top now, and clear down front. There is room for improvement to the SE launch, but maybe next summer?

WESTERN LAKE
Grant mentioned that the manager at Wharekouhou - the farm that we cross to launch, has moved to Australia. Grant to contact new manager, establish renewed access.

PG LEAGUE
Notice given of the Wairarapa Pargliding League to be held next couple of weeks.  [Postponed then cancelled due to bad weather forecasts - which should have been ignored!]

WELLINGTON HANG GLIDING NATIONALS
Notice of nationals to be held in the area end of February.
